Whale Watcing

Iceland has a lot to offer, everything from beautiful and dramatic landscapes to wonderful experiences with magnificent creatures, like the humpback whales or seals.

Every year the Humpback whales migrate from the Dominiqan Republic, where they breed, to the Atlantic Ocean where they feed. The whales usually stay around Iceland from May to October but they can stay here even longer.
The whales are often very close to Strytan Divecenter, you can even see them from shore or the hot tub outside the divecenter. There are not only Humpbacks in the fjord, almost everyday we see Harbour Porpoises and sometimes you get species like Minke whales, Blue whales and pilot whales but they are more rare around Eyjafjörður than the Humpbacks.

Strytan Divecenter does offer both private whale watching and a whale watching in a small group. It is up to you to decide!
Our groups are never larger than 6 people so the tour will always be personal and it is easy to chat to the captain or skipper.
Private tours are tailored for families or people who would like to be alone with a captain and a skipper on the boat.

Most of our tours are two hours but can be longer. We also offer some special deals in case the whales are close enough, then the tours are shorter and cheaper, however, we only know whether that is possible the day before or so.

Weather & Conditions
It’s said that Icelandic weather changes every 5 minutes, that’s maybe not always the case but it can change quite rapidly and the same goes with water conditions.

Be aware that we can change our tours or cancel them on a short notice to ensure your safety and provide the best experience as possible.

It’s good to bring clothes for every condition, the weather can be great in front of our divecenter, almost boiling, or it can be windy and quite cold, especially on the boat.
